Duarte Lemonade Brigade to Launch in January
Mount Olive Student-Run Business to Teach Entrepreneurship
Kids and lemonade stands. It’s a childhood rite of passage, a chance to make your own money, be your own boss – if only for a summer day. Now, some 15 to 20 Mount Olive Alternative High School students in Duarte are preparing to revisit the old lemonade stand model, this time armed with business and marketing plans, and the guidance of a successful entrepreneur. Robin Salzer, owner of Robin’s Wood Fire BBQ and Grill in Pasadena came up with the idea of the Lemonade Brigade to get teens to work together, gain leadership, organizational, critical thinking and entrepreneurial skills.
Needy Duarte Kids Get Free Dental Care
Foothill Unity Center and USC School of Dentistry partnered for a second year to bring
Mobile Dental Units to the community to provide much needed care to 110 local children from low-income families. More than half of the children were from Duarte. The Mobile Dental Units were set-up on the Beardslee School campus in Duarte for one week during which time children were provided treatments from x-rays, cleanings, and fillings to root canals on primary teeth, extractions, and stainless steel crowns. Festival of Authors Highlights

New Playground at Valley View School Opens
Children at Duarte's Valley View school were the first to try out the new playground equipment installed by the City of Duarte Parks and Recreation Department at Glenn Miller Park. The $37,000 project was funded through a Los Angeles County Regional Park
